REFLECTION
Experience :In the beginning I was a bit worried about this module. As I deferred last semester after the second or third week of class, my thoughts on this class was that it seems more hectic than the other modules. I also had seniors who told me that it's very scary so... However, I've come to realize that I actually really enjoy this module more than the other modules in this semester. The first few exercises were a bit much cause the deadlines were basically the week after we start doing the exercise, but I feel like it wasn't THAT bad either. As I got deeper into the module, it became much more easier for me to handle, especially with the help of my friends. It was really funny how I could finish designing the typeface for Project 2 faster than a similar project during Typography which was so much easier. Looking back, I think I've learnt quite a lot through this module. I was able to understand the Adobe softwares better and improve my skills in general. As I look through my reflection for Typography, I also find that this experience almost sound the same. Similarly, I feel like I've improved a lot since Typography and I'm really excited to continue improving in the future to come back and judge how bad my work is like how I am judging my Typography work right now.
Observation :
I notice that this module has really made me feel more interested in graphic design. I had a lot of fun doing the exercises and modules even though some parts were tough and time consuming. I also notice how I've been watching A LOT of graphic designers on YouTube. Overall, I just seem more interested in this field and I really want to learn more about it. I just genuinely find the module interesting and cool despite me still lacking the ability to design better designs. I'm usually a person that feels defeated easily if things don't go as how I expect but I just feel comfortable doing this module and learning from my imperfections. I'm really considering changing my specialisation because I don't think I'm actually interested in New Media... Other than that, I notice that some of my classmates were really hardworking and talented and I feel like I should definitely learn from them! It's great to have people around me that is inspiring.
Findings :
I find that binge watching random artist/designers work process is REALLY REALLY USEFUL. I was able to learn a lot from them and get inspiration off of their work. There were a lot of functions and things that I didn't know the software I was using could do, and I was just so amazed when I see these people do things that I never knew could be done. I think consistently saving random artwork or designs even when it seems irrelevant at that time is useful. If you were interested in it then, I guess it means that there were some parts of the design that you find good, so it would be great if I could identify what made me interested in it and try incorporating it into my own work. (no plagiarism ofc) Also, I think having people around you who is willing to give you feedback and encouragement is really helpful because it's sometimes hard to see your own mistakes. I've been asking for feedbacks more often in this semester than I did for the previous semesters. I think it's an essential part in helping me grow better on this path.
