Project 2 - Innovative Packaging

Week 4 (22/04/21)

For this project, Chia Min and I will be collaborating with students from Food Science to create a packaging for their product. The students from food science presented their ideas to us on Friday. The group we are collaborating with is doing Black Soldier Fly Larvae Nuggets.

Initially, they proposed a plastic packaging for their product. Below is the video Food Science students sent us as an example of the packaging.

Week 5 (29/04/21)

During the Food Science presentation, one of the feedback was that the price of the nuggets are expensive. With that, Chia Min and I asked if the Food Science students wanted to change their target market. We suggested to use a box packaging, something like a cereal. There will be a primary and a secondary packaging for the product. We also suggested that we could package it to be a "premium" product, and the colours can be black and yellow.

They came back to us saying that they really liked the proposed idea, but they would still prefer not using a box because it might get moldy since it'll be placed in the freezer.

Week 6 (06/05/21)

The food science students decided that the brand name will be called Nuggento. the name comes from nugget + ento (insects). They also changed their product proposition to eco friendly, so they asked if we could try another set of colours since they aren't sure if it's suitable for the new positioning. They also send us some references that they found.

After receiving feedback from Mr Shamsul, I reworked on the colour palette and the logo and showed Mr Shamsul in class. Below is the update:

Week 9 (27/05/21)

After receiving feedback from Mr Shamsul, we showed some sketches during the class. Below are the sketches we showed to Mr Shamsul. The right one is my sketches and the left one is Chia Min's.

After showing the sketches, we finalized on the sketches that we will continue working on. I did the last one for mine and Chia Min worked on the last one for hers.

Below is the designs that we created during the week. We presented this to the Food Science students during Week 10.

Week 10 (03/06/21)

After receiving feedback from the Food Science class, we decided to not have secondary and primary packaging and just have one box packaging that will have a lining inside to prevent the moisture from destroying the box. The food Science students also told us that their nuggets do not look like fried nuggets, it will look more like baked nuggets. Below are the references that they sent us.

The food science students also said that they liked our 2nd packaging design in the presentation slides, but they liked how the 5th packaging has the brand name at the back. Below is the refined design based on the feedbacks:

FEEDBACK

Week 8 (20/05/21)
The colours don't really look good, can consider another colour palette. Although the packaging should reflect that it's eco-friendly, it doesn't have to be through colour. Consider using a box design instead of plastic since it doesn't suit the eco-friendly theme. The logo currently reads as "nuggent" instead of "nuggento". Try making the "o" more obvious so people can read it correctly. The revised colour and logo looks a lot better.

Week 9 (27/05/21)
The window doesn't look so friendly. The graphics for the instruction doesn't work. Try including the tagline into the packaging design. Try coming up with other ideas for the packaging.

Week 10 (03/06/21)
Mr Shamsul: The packaging is better, but refine after the feedbacks from the presentation.
Food Science: The last design looks a bit empty. The packaging is a bit worrying because it might get moldy. The window will not look good either because the food will be frozen and it won't look like how it is in the packaging.

Week 11 (10/06/21)
There is too much text. The hierarchy of information is not there as there are different type size used. Maybe add an illustration cause the space at the side looks blank, like we forgot to include something. Try doing another mock up cause the dimension looks off.
