INSTRUCTIONS
Exercise 1 - Box Making
Week 1 (01/04/21)
Mr Shamsul wanted us to think of 2 items, maximum 300mm, to create a box for. These were my preliminary ideas for the items and some of their measurements:

Week 2 (08/04/21)
After showing my ideas to Mr Shamsul, he suggested that I go for the embroidery hoop and the washi tapes. I then created some sketches for the box designs in class. Below are my attempts:

After receiving feedback, I can now start on the box dieline. I decided to remeasure the measurements for embroidery hoop since the packaging was more focused on the metal screw.
Below is the updated measurement of the embroidery hoop:

I then move on to create the dieline of the two items. I created two different packaging for the embroidery hoop so that I could choose between the two.
 |
Figure 1.5 two options for the embroidery hoop |
I then decided that I would go with the smaller option as the bigger one had issues covering the screw. I also notice that the measurements for the dieline were off, so I had to rework on the dieline also.
These are the dieline for both packaging:

Exercise 2 - Playing Card Box Design
Week 4 (22/04/21)
For this exercise, I decided to draw fruits that could represent each symbol. Below is my mood board:
 |
Figure 3.2 Mood board |
I went on to draw the fruits to show Mr Shamsul. I initially drew a peach for the heart, a strawberry for the space, and a lemon for the diamond. I didn't know what to draw for club so I decided to ask during class. In class, Mariyam recommended a raspberry for the club and it seems to work so I went on with it. Below are the four main fruits for the 4 symbols:

My progression was slow for week 4 and 5, but below was the progress.
 |
Figure 3.4 Progression from Week 4 and 5 |
The first column is the 3 fruits for spade, diamond, and club. The 4 in the first row after spade is an apple for jack, a pineapple for king, grape for queen, and a banana for joker. The last one in the first row is the back design of the card. The other cards are the full set for heart.

Week 6 (06/05/21)
After receiving feedback, I continued working on the exercise. Firstly, I changed the pineapple to make it look more like a pineapple.

I then went on to find reference for my packaging. I wanted it to look like a fruit basket, like a gift. Below are the references I found:

Figure 4.1 Reference 2 |
 |
Figure 4.2 Reference 3 |
I also showed my sketch on how exactly I wanted it to be.
 |
Figure 4.3 Sketch for packaging |
I wanted to go with the first one but I couldn't really find much reference for it online so I thought it might be because it's not a suitable packaging for cards. I went with the second one, which is the same as reference 1.
I created a pattern for the packaging before adding it to the template.

Below is the die line and design for the packaging. Left is the outer packaging, right is the inner packaging, The mock up for the packaging is also below.

FEEDBACK
Week 1 (01/04/21)
General Feedback:
Choose 2 items or more (just in case one gets rejected) for the first exercise.
Week 2 (08/04/21)
General Feedback:
The packaging has to suit the type of product it is holding. Have to consider the weight of it, the pricing of it, what is it for, etc.
Specific Feedback:
Object selection; for the embroidery hoop, It's not necessary to create a packaging for the whole item, maybe just the metal screw part will do. Sketches for the boxes; can try out idea 1 and 3 for the embroidery hoop. Try to use the same material for both ideas and see which one is better. Idea 3 for the washi tape packaging, one transparent panel is enough.
Week 3 (15/04/21)
General Feedback:Make sure to submit the link, not the photos or slides.
Specific Feedback:
Boxes are well constructed, can submit in the classwork.
Week 4 (22/04/21)
Specific Feedback:
Can try to stick the corner better for the box if I want to get full marks. (But my box lowkey broke after that so...) The idea for the poker card design is good. The K, Q, J, and Joker can me another 4 fruits outside the 4 fruits I have. Try to think of what fruits can symbolize the symbols better. The back side of the card can be a scene of all the fruits. Illustration is cute.
Week 5 (29/04/21)
No class
Week 6 (06/05/21)
General Feedback:
Don't have to actually make the box, just a mock up of how it will be would be good.
Specific Feedback:
It's fine if the fruits aren't arrange in a way, just make sure the scene is clear, can see roughly what they're doing. The back side isn't in the same style as the fruits, try to draw a scene based on what the other fruits are doing it the other cards. The pineapple doesn't really look like a pineapple, refine it a bit to make it look more obvious as a pineapple.
